Father's Day

When I think of my father, I find it hard to put into words the feelings I have about him. He is someone who, regardless of my decisions, life paths, and situations has always stood by me.  He has, as I would imagine any parent does, felt all my joys and heartaches as if they were his.  I know that I am fortunate to have him as my mentor, guide, parent and hero.  This year is a very special year for him as he will soon be retiring and this will also mark a new chapter in my life as well.

When I think of other fathers, I know many and some very good ones at that, but there is one who has found and has my heart in his hands.  Sometimes, life leads you down paths that are meant to help you learn about yourself, help you grow and become who you were meant to be.  For some of us, we are meant to meet that one person later so that we are ready because we wouldn't have been before.  And still yet, goals that might have been true a lifetime ago change because life doesn't always deal a straight hand.

So this Father's day, as with last, I am able to spend the day with not only my father but my partner who is a father to two amazing children. He is the kind of father I have dreamt about for my kids.  Caring, fun, affectionate, active, full of life, firm, consistent, reasonable, emotional, artistic involved and simply there for his kids.  He tirelessly works at making sure the house is clean, meals are made, lunches packed, laundry done all while making jokes and being silly.  He never complains or gets upset when accidents happen. He is my perfect partner.  I may not be able to share the experience of having children with him but I can stand beside him while he raises his children.  I can experience his legacy and maybe play a small role in their lives.  I have chosen them as I have chosen him.

Life is not always a straight line but your path is there.  This I have learned.  #happyfathersday
